Name that Cruise Ship

February 29, 2008

Well, I just submitted my two entries - well ship names - for the Royal Caribbean newest “fun ships.” Keep your fingers crossed for me! The finalists will receive a travel package to England, including a two-night inaugural cruise for two on Independence of the Seas. The winner receives a seven day cruise on one of the new ships. This was such a fun contest and required real thought. Of course, once I got the juices flowing (so to speak), I kept thinking of names and couldn’t stop! LOL. Too bad they only allowed two entries per household.

Practicing Law with the Federal Government

February 23, 2008

In light of the fact that I live hours from the nearest law school, I am considering the possibility of attending an online law school. I know, I know, ABA has no approved online law schools and most states won’t let you “sit for the bar” unless you’re a graduate of an approved law school; however, there is a work around - at least according to the research I’ve done thus far!

California allows online law school graduates to site for their bar exam, provided the student completed the required prerequisite courses. Additionally, as a “career” employee with the federal government, if I were to pass the CA Bar Exam I could practice with any federal agency in the US and their territories.

According to OPM, GS-905- General Attorney Series:

There is no OPM qualification standard for positions in this series, as OPM is prohibited by law from examining for attorney positions or establishing qualification requirements for them. These positions are generally in the excepted service, and agencies establish their own qualification requirements for them.”

Flavor it Fresh - Water?!

February 19, 2008

Stainless Steel Water BottleStainless Steel Water Bottle. Keep your water fresh & cool! Plastic water bottles can release toxic chemicals into your drink; Woman’s World recommended stainless steel water bottles. The one featured to the left is from Klean Kanteen - it’s perfect for the walker and you can select from an array of different tops.

Add Pizazz. Flavor to your filtered water by adding a squeeze of lime, lemon, or a dash of real vitamin packed fruit juice.

Water Filter. According to Woman’s World, many bottled waters are simply filtered tap water and you can achieve the same benefits by using an inexpensive filter on your faucet.

Regency Romance Heroine

February 18, 2008

As an AVID romance reader, I can appreciate 17Catherines’ knowledge of the Regency era and her creativity in the development of What Type of Regency Romance Heroine Are You quiz. My results are below:

Regency Romance HeroineLucky you - you are the Belle of the Ball. Looks, wit, charm, accomplishments and money - you have them all. You are the toast of Society, and have received offers from no fewer than three Dukes. There is no-one who does not love you on sight. Sound good? It isn’t, because to compensate for these riches, the author has something very nasty indeed in store for you. I mean, she does have to write a novel here, and you can’t expect to be happy all the time.

So, you have a Dark Secret. Or perhaps a Secret Love for the only man who does not appear to desire you. Or maybe you will be kidnapped, or become embroiled in a scandal, or be wagered and lost by your brother in a card game. The possibilities are endless, but you may be certain of two things. 1) You will not get through this book without some kind of scandal being attached to your name. I’m sorry, but that’s just how it is. 2) Whatever it is, he (the man of your dreams, that is) will fall in love with you, rescue you, slay your opponents, defy your detractors, marry you and live happily ever after. This is a romance novel, after all.

Geek Cruises - Jan/May/Sept

February 17, 2008

Egyptian CruiseInsight/Geek Cruises is hosting the kind of contest I like…complete one form and you’re ALWAYS entered to win. NO more return trips, just click, click, click and that’s it! Their history cruises appeal to me most since I minored in Medieval History. I absolutely love the prospect of cruising with other History buffs to various ports - particularly since I can’t generate any historical interests on the home front (shopping and football is much more fun). Is there such a thing as a cruise to the Scottish Highlands or Spanish Moors? LOL!
