Holistic Pain Relief & Relaxation

March 2, 2008

Massage TherapyA few months ago when I first started experiencing pain in my right shoulder, clavical and neck area, my GP suggested the holistic approach (after medication brought me no relief).

I was somewhat skeptical when she suggested a warm stone massage, acupuncture, in addition to no less than 4 bottles of reverse-osmosis water per day.

After a bit of researching, I found many people experience sublime relaxation and pain relief through massage, as well as Reiki and/or Reflexology.

A few of my favorite massage spas:

One thing all of the above have in common is the air of relaxation their massage rooms have. Notice the use of Feng Shui - certain colors, accessories and furniture placement to facilitate relaxation and healing. As to whether massage therapy will work for me remains to be seen!

Healing Properties of Dudu-Osun Black Soap

March 1, 2008

Dudu-OsunIf you’ve never had the opportunity to try Dudu-Osun, you’ve really missed a great product! I use this soap daily to not only remove my makeup, but to moisturize distressed areas on my arms and feet. It restores damaged skin and is helpful in healing chronic eczema, acne, freckles & dark spots.

According to their website, “Dudu-Osun is the time-tested and widely acclaimed traditional African soap made from natural ingredients. It possesses many curative and healing properties as well as enhancing the appearance and feel of the skin.”

The ingredients:

  • Camwood - Camwood makes the skin supple and improves it’s elasticity. It gives it an even tone and is especially helpful for young mothers and the elderly.
  • Honey & Cocoa - The nutritive attributes of honey and cocoa enrich the natural skin conditioning properties of the soap.
  • Shea Butter - This unique butter provides an emollient with curative properties and helps protect tender skin.
  • Palm Kernel - Palm Kernel forms the main base of the oil used for making Dudu-Osun.
  • Aloe Vera - This plant possesses healing, conditioning and moisturising properties, leaving your skin smooth and soft.

Thrifty moms can find Dudu-Osun relatively cheap at around $3 per bar from Afrikan Republic.

Solution for Dry, Unruly, Curly Hair

March 1, 2008

Black Vanilla Leave In ConditionerI had an absolutely fantastic pedicure and massage just the other day. While waiting my turn I overheard a few ladies talking about the all-natural products from “Carol’s Daughter.” Intrigued because of my constant search for an all-natural detangler, I had to ask a few questions.

It turns out that this line of products are, for the most part, all natural and somewhat reasonably priced. This multi-million dollar company was started by a single mom looking to make a few extra dollars (I support moms in business when I can). Carol’s Daughters’ products are only endorsed, but invested in, by: Jada Pickett-Smith, Mary J Blidge, Oprah, etc…which I’m hoping is a good sign!

After pouring over their site, I’ve decided to try the Rosemary Mint Shampoo with Sea Moss ($12.50) and the Black Vanilla Leave in Conditioner ($11.50). S/H is a bit high for the weight of the two products ($8 for 1-1.5 lbs worth of products), but hopefully it will be well worth it.
